On April 25th 2024, we visited Woodhome Elementary/Middle School as our first school since the founding of the club. We were invited along with some other clubs from Poly to showcase our STEM activities to the students for their STEAM night event.
The Poly STEM Outreach club brought two activities at Woodhome Elementary/Middle School; Conductivity Experiment and Shape Fill.
For the conductivity experiment, we let the kids examine what types of objects can light a light bulb. We used alligator clips, battery, small LED light, and wires to conduct this experiment. We also brought objects like a fork, paper clip, dime, and gum wrapper. The purpose of this activity is to teach kids about conductivity and its mechanics.
Next, for the shape fill activity, the students have to fill out a piece of paper that has a certain shape, using the colorful paper blocks that the club members cut out before the visit. The purpose of this activity is to teach kids about units in Math.
Lastly, we gave out STEM activity books to students.
In conclusion, we were able to demonstrate and help the students with our activities, and the kids enjoyed and loved our station. MISSION SUCCESS!
