On December 10th 2024, we visited Wolfe Street Academy, our first school of the year 2024-2025. The Poly STEM Outreach Club along with Robotics Club and AFJROTC showcased their STEM activities to 4th graders. Additionally, four of our club members went to a 4th grade classroom to do a short presentation about STEM.
A few of our members went to two 4th grade classrooms, and there they presented our short slide about STEM. The slide focused on the importance of STEM. After the presentation, we had a small trivia at the end of the slides, and we give away candies to students. We also passed out raffle tickets for our raffle at the end of the event. Then we start our hands-on activities.
The Poly STEM Outreach brought three activities for the 4th graders to do; Mathopoly, Strawberry DNA, and Binary Communication.
In the Strawberry DNA station, our club members helped guide and experiment with the students, the goal of the experiment was to extract DNA from a strawberry. The activity was very successful, and students were able to extract DNA from a strawberry with the help of our club members.
Meanwhile, in the Mathopoly station, our club members taught and played with the students on our Math version of monopoly, it was a pretty fun and exciting activity. The students really enjoyed the activity.
Lastly, our club members in the Binary Communication station, were also successful like the other two activities. Although there was a bit of confusion at first, our members tried their best to help and teach the students how to do the activity.
Additionally, the Robotics Club showcased their robots while AFJROTC showcased their drones. They taught the students about each thing, and they also let students control the robots and drones.
At the end, we gave out surveys to all the students, and our raffle prizes to the winners. We also gave out STEM activity books to all the students.
In conclusion, the event was successful, we were able to put smiles on the students faces. MISSION SUCCESS!
